THE NEED FOR ACTION: Cabarete, western mecca for watersports!
The perfect combination of water and wind makes this place overlooking the Atlantic an epicenter for kitesurf from all over the world.
Have you ever visited Cabarete, on the north coast of the Dominican Republic?
It began to attract windsurfers in the roaring eighties. Over time, the variety of sports expanded to kitesurfing, surfing, sailing, and stand-up paddle boarding (SUP).
On average, the wind blows 20 days a month, at a speed of 17 knots, the outside temperature is 28° and the water temperature is 27°.
There are several schools that will help you get closer to these disciplines and, we can say quite frankly, visiting them is exhilarating enough.
Every year there are various events that attract young people from different parts of the world. The most famous being the Master of the Ocean, a true concentration of energy in the surfing shows and competitions (free body), windsurfing, kitesurfing and SUP (stand-up paddle boarding). For 2021 the event has been scheduled in September. Moreover, local athletes liven the D.R. Open Kiteboarding, with exciting Freestyle competitions.
Sports activities take place mainly at Playa Encuentro, while at night the meeting point for everyone is Playa Cabarete. And it is during nighttime that numerous beach clubs come to life offering you the possibility of enjoying an informal aperitive or a moment of fun after dinner; “Good vibes” in the air…
Viva Wyndham Tangerine is located just minutes from Cabarete Beach.
It offers several types of accommodation, among the All Together Rooms for families, 4 restaurants, two swimming pools, theater and gym.
Its all-inclusive formula also includes an introductory lesson to kitesurfing and scuba diving. It also offers group windsurfing lessons and individual use of kayaks, paddleboards and catamarans.
And if you want to tattoo the waves … you can do it inside the resort, with henna or permanently.
