“Johnny Cake” is derived from “Journey Cake”; it’s the name of a sweet bread that Bahamanian sponge fishermen used to cook on the small stoves of their boats during long trips out at sea.
A simple dish with a beautiful story, that you can easily prepare at home.
2 cups flour
Half a cup of seed oil
A quarter cup of milk
1 tablespoon dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt (optional).
In a large bowl mix flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Add oil and milk. Mix vigorously until the dough is obtained.
Place in a low and greased pan. Flatten well with your fingers and finally use a kitchen brush to put some milk on top. If you wish, you can pass the fork tips to create decorative waves. Bake for 25-30 minutes at a temperature of 180 °. When the bread is golden, remove it from the oven and serve it hot with a little butter.
